Nespresso aims to continuously innovate and perfect all coffee tasting moments and is on a permanent quest for the most unique aspects of creativity and expertise. To enrich all coffee tasting moments, Nespresso launches an avant-garde and playful collection of accessories, designed to intuititevly fit into coffee lovers’ contemporary lifestyle. The PIXIE Collection, inspired by the spirit of the PIXIE machine and Nespresso brand icons and tailored for each Grand Cru, has been conceived to create the ultimate Nespresso experience at home.

To enhance its pioneering spirit, Nespresso chose to collaborate with the avant-garde design studio 5.5 Designers on the PIXIE Collection. From a passionate exchange of ideas, the 5.5 design team have delivered a collection which is both ingenious and modular. Their design approach, tinted with humour and simplicity, has seduced not only Nespresso, but also a large panel of national and international institutions, with the city council of Paris awarding them the “Grand Prix de la Création” for their work in 2006.

“In creating the PIXIE Collection, we drew our inspiration from the brand’s iconic elements,” commented the designers. “The universe of Nespresso is so rich that these objects appeared to be a ‘must.’ The capsule increases in scale to become a cup, the slim sugar stick becomes a stirring stick, and the sleeves become durable capsule dispensers.”

To reflect the extensive range of 16 Nespresso Grands Crus to match individual taste preferences of coffee lovers worldwide, the coffee cups in the PIXIE Collection have been created in 16 different colours, for a playful, intuitive and smartly-designed product range. The PIXIE Collection cups are available in 2 sizes, Espresso and Lungo, representing the ideal capacity to match the specificities of each Grand Cru. Although the exterior design is inspired by and takes the shape of the iconic Nespresso capsule, the cups on the inside are created in a double-wall design to ensure a perfect thermal insulation for the optimal enjoyment of every coffee moment. The cups have further been purposefully designed in an ideal rounded shape to foster the emulsion of cream and with sufficient headspace in order to enhance coffee aromas.

Other icons of the brand have also inspired the design team and have been transformed into irresistible yet practical objects. The PIXIE Collection is enriched by a range of capsule dispensers, inspired by the Nespresso capsule sleeve and made in aluminium. The capsule dispensers, transcending the colours of the range of Nespresso Grand Cru coffee capsules, are available as free-standing units or for wall fixing.

About the 5.5 Designers
5.5 is a design studio based in Paris founded in 2003. Their first project “Réanim” had a strong impact on the design scene. Far from focusing only on shaping objects, the 5.5 designers constantly push themselves creatively and relentlessly question what their designer status stands for. Each of their creation represents accessible consumption alternatives, with a true intention to sublimate the ordinary.

Although the 5.5 is a young studio, their design portfolio already includes an impressive list of brands such as Baccarat, LaCie, Overflex, Bernardaud, the Centre Pompidou, SABZ and La Corbeille.
